Intro
This project started at my employer Init AG but was also self-initiated. Initially, my task in this project was to carry out a heuristic evaluation and to conduct usability test sessions with users. Due to my personal interest in complex prototyping, UI design and the development of design systems, I decided to create my own version based on the problem discovery.
Business Context
As part of the implementation of the Online Access Act (OZG) and a collaboration with the Federal State of Lower Saxony and the associated Ministry of Economic Affairs, a digital application management platform was created to digitize mining applications. As these applications themselves and their administration is a highly complex and very time-consuming process, not only the applications were digitized, but also the communication between the industrial companies and the relevant authorities.
Problem
The system was not designed to be user-friendly. Even though all application processes could be processed with it, it was not satisfactory. After an analysis, it was clear that the system rarely used up-to-date design patterns and usability standards based on other software tools of this kind. This led to an unfamiliar user experience that was very confusing. The visual design was also often inconsistent and not effective - this was caused by the incomplete design system.
